Egyptian Organization for Standards and Quality.
The Egyptian Organization for Standards and Quality has announced a remarkable international achievement with the establishment of the first international working group within the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) focused on laboratory equipment in biobanks. This initiative, driven by a purely Egyptian proposal, positions Egypt as the leader of this group on a global scale.
The Egyptian proposal successfully met all international acceptance criteria as mandated by ISO guidelines, leading to its official inclusion as an international proposal under the rules and procedures of ISO pertaining to specifications for laboratory equipment in biobanks.
Dr. Khaled Sofy, Chairman of the Egyptian Organization for Standards and Quality and President of ISO, confirmed that an official notification from ISO has established the new working group and appointed Dr. Heba Saad, an expert from the organization, as the chairperson of this international working group and project leader. He emphasized that this Egyptian proposal addresses the needs of both developing and developed countries. Through its leadership of this group, Egypt aims to enhance effective Egyptian and African participation in the preparation of international standards, ensuring that the continent’s needs are represented in the global standardization framework.
Sofy further explained that this achievement marks a significant turning point in Egypt’s engagement with ISO, reflecting growing confidence in Egyptian expertise to lead international technical files in advanced scientific and technological fields. The organization has transitioned from merely participating in developing international standards to becoming a key partner in formulating and guiding their future directions. This enhances Egypt’s presence and influence within the global standardization system.
This milestone supports Egypt’s commitment to advancing scientific research, innovation, and biotechnology while solidifying its status as a regional and continental hub within the international standardization landscape. Additionally, it establishes Egypt as a leader in technical files across Africa and a significant member of ISO committees, especially since the project originated from an Egyptian initiative aimed at addressing shared global needs in critical areas linked to scientific research and advanced medical technologies.
