Written byFerdous Saeed

Hossam Hassan, the head coach of the Egyptian national football team, has dismissed rumors regarding a supposed disagreement with team captain Mohamed Salah over his substitution in the recent match against Belgium during the 2026 World Cup.

In a press conference preceding Egypt’s clash with New Zealand, Hassan praised Salah’s performance, noting that he played in a different position than usual but adapted well to the tactical instructions. He emphasized that Salah responded positively and showcased his abilities on the field.

The coach highlighted that Salah serves as a role model within the team, playing a crucial role in supporting his teammates and fostering commitment and discipline among players. He reiterated that their relationship is built on mutual respect and trust, labeling the claims of conflict as mere rumors.

Hassan further stated that the team’s success relies on collective performance rather than any single player’s contributions, regardless of their talent. He acknowledged the significance of Salah along with the other members of the squad, which includes 26 players.

Additionally, he refuted any claims of discord among players, commending goalkeeper Mahdi Soliman for his dedication and performance. Hassan noted that some circulating criticisms are based on falsehoods aimed at undermining the efforts of both players and coaching staff.

The Egyptian team is set to face New Zealand early Monday in their second group stage match after starting their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Belgium. New Zealand also drew with Iran 2-2 in their opening game.
