Netherlands Dominates Sweden with 5-1 Victory in World Cup 2026

The Netherlands achieved a resounding victory against Sweden, winning 5-1 in their second group stage match of the 2026 World Cup, showcasing their strong performance in the tournament.

This win brought the Dutch team’s total to four points, while Sweden remained at three points, awaiting the outcome of the match between Tunisia and Japan, where Japan currently has one point and Tunisia has yet to score.

The Dutch team opened the scoring early in the 7th minute with a goal from Brian Brobbey, who capitalized on a precise low cross from Cody Gakpo inside the penalty area, placing it directly into the net.

Brobbey doubled the lead in the 18th minute after Denzel Dumfries delivered another excellent low cross into the box, which Brobbey converted successfully amidst clear Dutch dominance.

Just before halftime, Sweden appeared to have scored a goal to reduce the deficit in the 44th minute; however, it was disallowed after a VAR review confirmed an offside position.

In the second half, Gakpo extended the lead for the Netherlands with a goal in the 48th minute. He struck a powerful shot into the middle of the net after receiving a low cross from the right side.

Gakpo added his second goal just six minutes later in the 54th minute. After receiving a pass on the edge of the penalty area, he skillfully dribbled past a Swedish defender before unleashing a powerful shot that found its way into the net.

Sweden managed to pull one back in the 58th minute through Anthony Elanga. He received a brilliant through ball and slotted it past the Dutch goalkeeper into the bottom right corner.

However, Krysencio Summerville capped off an impressive performance for Holland by scoring their fifth goal in stoppage time. He fired a powerful strike from outside the penalty area that found its way to the left side of the net.

This emphatic victory solidifies Netherlands’ position at the top of their group while intensifying competition as they head into further matches in this round.
