Written byFerdous Saeed

In an unusual incident during the 2026 World Cup match between the United States and Australia, play was halted for several minutes just before the end of the game due to a sudden injury to German referee Felix Zwayer.

The United States secured a 2-0 victory, officially advancing to the knockout stage of the tournament. The match was characterized by a high physical pace and continuous pressure from both teams.

As temperatures soared in Seattle, Zwayer unexpectedly collapsed on the field, suffering from a severe muscle cramp, which raised concerns among players and officials as he struggled to continue officiating.

In a display of sportsmanship, players from both teams rushed to assist Zwayer by elevating his leg and helping him regain his balance.

However, the moment took an intriguing turn when a member of the organizing staff entered the pitch and offered the referee a drink that piqued the curiosity of fans and spectators alike. Social media buzzed with questions about its nature.

According to The Sun, this drink was identified as pickle juice, known for its ability to quickly alleviate muscle cramps due to its properties believed to help calm nerves associated with muscle contractions.

The mysterious concoction given to the referee here is probably pickle juice.

Pickle juice can relieve acute muscle cramps in less than 60 seconds by triggering a sensory response in the back of the throat. This reflex sends an immediate nerve signal to the brain, instructing it to calm down the nerves responsible for involuntary contractions that lead to cramping, offering rapid relief for muscles.

Despite the humorous and unusual nature of this incident, it highlighted the challenging physical conditions referees face during major tournament matches, especially amid rising temperatures and intense physical play.
