New Zealand Coach Confident Ahead of Egypt Clash in World Cup 2026
Darren Bazeley, the head coach of the New Zealand national team, shared his thoughts on the upcoming match against Egypt in the 2026 World Cup.
New Zealand will face Egypt on Monday morning at the BC Place stadium as part of the second round of Group G in the tournament.
In comments to New Zealand’s Stuff website, Bazeley stated, “Looking to the future, we have set a performance standard that the players have established for themselves. They have shown that we can deliver this level of football in World Cup matches, which is fantastic for us.”.
He added, “There are many positives from our performance, and I believe it has changed many people’s perceptions about us and expectations for New Zealand. There are still some areas we need to improve on, which we will consider before the next match, but overall we can be very positive after earning a point in the World Cup.”.
Bazeley continued, “This is a game we are not afraid of. True, Egypt has big names like Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush, who are global stars. However, we played against them two years ago and had a very good match despite missing several key players.”.
He concluded his remarks by saying, “It will be a tough match as we know every team in the World Cup is striving for the best results. Egypt and Belgium have exceptionally talented players, and we must be able to handle them defensively.”.
Bazeley emphasized their ambition: “We want to make history. We were disappointed not to secure our first win in the last match, but getting a point was good. We are in a strong position and competing well; now we have another opportunity to move forward, and we need to quickly reach the same level we showed in our first game.”.
