Integrated Electronic Payment System for Metro, Electric Train, and Monorail Launched
The Ministry of Transport, represented by the National Authority for Tunnels, has announced the implementation of modern payment methods across the three metro lines and the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system. Additionally, a special subscription system for the East Nile Monorail will offer a 50% discount on ticket prices for all types of subscriptions. This initiative aims to facilitate travel for citizens and save time and effort, particularly during peak hours when passenger numbers surge.
This move reflects the growing interest among citizens in using sustainable green public transport options, supporting the government’s policy to provide a developed and integrated network of transportation solutions. The goal is to meet the needs of all citizens and facilitate their mobility as part of Egypt’s vision for future development.
1. Metro Lines Payment Options
The authority offers various payment methods for passengers, including:.
- Electronic Wallet Card: This card can be purchased once and recharged at stations. It features a five-year validity period, can be loaded with any amount, and allows balance transfer from an expired or damaged card to a new one. The card can be used by multiple passengers entering and exiting the same station, speeds up entry and exit processes, and can also be utilized at ATM machines.
- Automated Ticket Vending Machines (TVM): Available at several stations.
- Single Journey Tickets: Can be obtained from ticket counters or TVMs.
- Monthly and Seasonal Subscriptions: Available in various categories.
- Discounted Subscriptions: Offered to regular daily commuters based on duration (monthly, quarterly, annually).
2. Subscription Offices Locations for Metro Lines
The subscription offices are located at the following stations:.
- Line 1: Helwan – Ain Helwan – Helwan University – Maadi – Dar Al-Salam – Zahraa – Ahmed Orabi – Al-Shaheed – Manshiyet Al-Sadr – Hadayek Al-Zeitoun – Ain Shams – Ezbet El-Nakhl – El-Marg – New Marg.
- Line 2: Agricultural College – El-Mozalat – Rod El-Farag – Masara – Al-Shaheed – Attaba – Opera – Dokki – Cairo University – Um Al-Masryeen – Al-Munib.
- Line 3: Adly Mansour – Al-Nozha – Heliopolis – Girls’ College – Abbassia – Abdo Pasha – Attaba – Gamal Abdel Nasser – Safaa Hegazy – Imbaba – Qawmia – Wadi El-Nile – Cairo University.
The working hours are from 7 AM to 8 PM throughout the week.
3. Light Electric Train (LRT)
The authority provides multiple payment options for LRT passengers:.
- Contactless Ticket Cards.
- 30-Day Unlimited Ride Subscription: Valid only for use within the LRT system.
- Ticket Vending Machines (TVM) and Ticket Counters (TOM): Available at all train stations.

The National Authority for Tunnels also offers electronic payment options using Visa cards at all ticket counters and subscription offices across the metro lines and LRT system. This new service enables passengers to purchase single journey tickets, recharge electronic wallet cards, and issue or renew monthly or seasonal subscriptions. The initiative aims to streamline payment processes, reduce queues at ticket counters, and save time especially during peak hours.
4. East Nile Monorail
The authority provides various payment options for monorail passengers:.
- Ticket Counters with Electronic Payment Options: Available at all stations.
- TVM Machines: Present at every monorail station.
- The Ministry of Transport has introduced a special subscription system for the East Nile Monorail that offers a 50% discount on ticket prices for all subscription types (weekly – monthly – quarterly).
The subscription offices are located at ticket counters in all stations along the first phase of the East Nile Monorail project extending from Mosheer Tantawy Station to Justice City Station in New Capital (16 stations): Mosheer Tantawy – One Ninety – Air Hospital – Narges – Investors – Lotus Station – Golden Square – Beit Watan – Mosque of Fatih Al-Alim – R1 District – R2 District – Business & Finance District – Arts & Culture City – Government District – Mosque of Egypt – Justice City in New Capital.
