Health Minister Emphasizes Continuous Education to Keep Up with Cardiac Treatment Innovations

The third annual conference of the Treatment Foundation and the ninth for Cardiology Departments at the Heart Academy (CINE 9) commenced on June 17 and 18, 2026. The event features a distinguished lineup of cardiology professors and interventional cardiology consultants from the National Heart Institute and Egyptian universities, alongside experts from various Arab countries.
This conference is organized in accordance with directives from Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, aimed at enhancing the healthcare system and improving medical care quality, with a focus on bolstering cardiac emergency units and providing advanced therapeutic interventions.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, highlighted the significance of continuous medical education in keeping pace with the latest scientific advancements in cardiac disease treatment. He noted that the conference aims to showcase recent developments in diagnosing and treating heart diseases, particularly complex chronic coronary artery obstructions, as well as alternatives to open-heart surgery through interventional catheterization. Clinical case discussions and experience sharing among participants will also be key components of the event.
Dr. Mohamed Shakweer, Chairman of the Treatment Foundation, expressed pride in this distinguished scientific event that brings together Egyptian and Arab medical talents to exchange expertise and discuss recent advancements in cardiology and interventional catheterization. He affirmed that organizing this conference reflects the foundation’s commitment to supporting continuous medical education and keeping up with global developments, believing that investing in knowledge is fundamental to enhancing healthcare service quality.
Shakweer pointed out that the Heart Academy has achieved a qualitative leap in specialized cardiac services by adopting the latest medical technologies and advanced equipment while performing precise interventions according to international standards.


Additionally, Dr. Mohamed Sabry, a cardiologist at the National Heart Institute and Head of Cardiology at the Heart Academy, revealed that the academy provides specialized cardiac care services for over 10,000 patients annually. The facility also sees more than 30,000 visitors at its outpatient clinics while offering round-the-clock emergency cardiac services.
Dr. Ahmed El Sawah, a cardiologist at the National Heart Institute and Director of Catheterization Units at the academy, explained that it houses two catheterization labs equipped with state-of-the-art global technologies along with electrophysiological study devices. The academy provides diagnostic and therapeutic catheterization services for over 5,000 patients annually, including both adults and children.
He added that advanced cardiac interventions are performed at the academy such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVI), pediatric heart catheterizations, pulmonary valve replacements, and treatment for complete chronic coronary artery obstructions (CTO) using cutting-edge global techniques. This underscores their ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality cardiac services.
