Egypt Launches National Sensor Innovation Competition: SensorX Challenge 2026

The Innovators and Talents Care Fund, in collaboration with the Leadership Preparation Institute, has announced the launch of the SensorX Challenge 2026. This national competition aims to foster innovation in smart sensor technology among Egyptian university and institute students. Under the patronage of Dr. Abdelaziz Qonsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the initiative seeks to develop innovative technological solutions to address developmental challenges across vital sectors, transforming creative ideas into impactful startups.

Dr. Tamer Hamouda, Executive Director of the Innovators and Talents Care Fund, emphasized that the competition aims to support innovation within Egyptian universities and institutes, enabling students to develop smart technological solutions for real-world challenges. The initiative will provide support and incubation for promising ideas, facilitating their transition into viable projects that strengthen the link between scientific research and industry, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Hamouda added that the competitions organized by the fund serve as a platform for discovering talented innovators and providing various forms of support post-competition, which contributes to transforming promising ideas into applicable projects through establishing startups that bolster a knowledge-based economy.

Dr. Karim Hammam, Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education for Student Activities and Director of the Leadership Preparation Institute, noted that the competition serves as a platform for discovering innovators among university students and institutes in Egypt. It also supports turning their ideas into practical projects that contribute to community service while promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in alignment with the Ministry’s vision for preparing future leaders.

Dr. Ghada Khodary, Competition Director at the Innovators and Talents Care Fund, explained that the competition covers several strategic priority sectors including environment and sustainability, health and biomedical sciences, smart agriculture, infrastructure and construction, transportation, industry and manufacturing, energy and utilities, smart buildings and cities, water resources, marine resources, as well as robotics and smart devices. This breadth allows participants to propose innovative solutions that meet developmental needs across various fields.

The total value of prizes and support offered in this competition exceeds 250 thousand Egyptian pounds. The first-place winner will receive 100 thousand pounds along with project funding within a business incubator; second place will receive 75 thousand pounds with development support; third place will earn 50 thousand pounds along with business incubation and a certificate of recognition. Additional special awards include 20 thousand pounds for best social impact project, another 20 thousand pounds for best prototype model, plus an award for best environmental project.

Submissions are open until August 1, 2026. The shortlist of qualified projects will be announced on August 16, 2026. The final rounds will take place on September 1, 2026. Participation is open to students from all types of Egyptian universities and institutes (governmental, private, technical), as well as graduate students.
