The Saudi Arabian national team kicked off its World Cup 2026 journey with a thrilling 1-1 draw against Uruguay in their opening match of the group stage.

Saudi Arabia took the lead in the 41st minute of the first half. After a cross into the penalty area was initially parried by the Uruguayan goalkeeper, Abdul Ilah Al-Amri followed up to slot the ball into the net, giving the “Green Falcons” an early advantage.

In the second half, Uruguay intensified its attacking efforts in search of an equalizer. Maximiliano Araújo managed to score in the 80th minute, capitalizing on a rebound after a first save from the Saudi goalkeeper.

The final minutes saw both teams pushing for a winning goal, but solid defensive organization and impressive performances from both goalkeepers kept the score unchanged, resulting in a draw.
