Steve Clarke, the head coach of Scotland’s national team, expressed his immense satisfaction following his team’s victory over Haiti in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup.

Scotland secured a valuable win against Haiti with a score of 1-0 in the first round of Group C, earning their first three points in the tournament.

In statements to beIN Sports, Clarke said, “We achieved an important victory and delivered a good performance; we created many chances and could have scored more goals.”.

He added, “We faced some difficulties, but that is normal in a major tournament like the World Cup, especially since the competition in this group is strong.”.

The Scotland coach emphasized the importance of enjoying the experience, stating, “Players should relish what they accomplished today; the atmosphere was fantastic and it was a special day for us.”.

John McGinn scored the only goal of the match in the 28th minute, securing a historic victory for his country—their first win in a World Cup since 1990.

This win marks a strong return for Scotland, participating in the World Cup for the first time since 1998. The competition remains open in Group C following Brazil’s draw with Morocco in another match.
