Written byFerdous Saeed

The Moroccan Football Federation has officially announced the exclusion of players Abdel Samad Zaalzouli and Nayef Akord from the final squad for the 2026 World Cup due to injuries.

In a statement, the federation reassured fans that the overall health status within the national team is stable, with most players continuing their preparations as per the pre-established training program, in line with current demands ahead of the tournament.

The medical staff is closely monitoring the players’ health to assess injury developments and determine each player’s physical readiness.

Regarding Abdel Samad Zaalzouli, medical examinations revealed a right knee injury involving a sprain accompanied by a tear in the medial collateral ligament. This injury requires an extended rehabilitation period, making his participation in the World Cup impossible.

Nayef Akord’s condition has shown some improvement following an intensive treatment and rehabilitation program. However, there remains insufficient time for him to regain full fitness to compete at his best level before the tournament begins.

Based on final medical reports, head coach Mohamed Wahbi has called up Amin Sebai and Marouane Saadan to replace the injured players in the final roster of 26.

The federation noted that both newcomers were part of the reserve group during the recent training camp and demonstrated good performance and discipline, making them suitable options to strengthen the team during this crucial phase.

The Moroccan Football Federation concluded its statement by emphasizing ongoing health monitoring for all players while sending messages of support to Zaalzouli and Akord, wishing them a speedy recovery and a swift return to the pitch despite their absence from this major global event.

It reiterated that the absent players will remain integral to the team’s spirit and will support their teammates throughout their journey in the 2026 World Cup, reflecting the collective spirit that characterizes the Moroccan national team in various competitions.
