Former Brazilian star Marcelo, a Real Madrid player, found himself in an unexpected situation following the opening match of the 2026 World Cup.

According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Marcelo was caught in the midst of violent clashes between demonstrators and security forces immediately after the match between Mexico and South Africa.

The security services acted swiftly upon noticing Marcelo’s presence in the troubled area, ensuring his safe exit without any harm or injuries.

As of now, Marcelo has not made any official comment regarding the incident, and it remains unclear whether this occurrence will affect his attendance at upcoming matches in the tournament.

The Brazilian player had traveled to Mexico to enjoy the World Cup festivities and shared a photo on his Instagram account showcasing his enjoyment of the tournament atmosphere before the situation escalated at the end of the opening day.
