Real Madrid Officially Signs José Mourinho as Head Coach
Real Madrid has officially announced the appointment of Portuguese manager José Mourinho as the new head coach of the first team, succeeding Spaniard Álvaro Arbeloa. The contract extends until the summer of 2029.
The club stated in a release on its official website that the board of directors, led by Florentino Pérez, approved Mourinho’s appointment during a meeting held on June 11. The new managerial term will last for three seasons, concluding on June 30, 2029.
Mourinho is set to begin his duties on July 13, coinciding with the start of the preseason preparations for the upcoming season.
Return for a Second Stint
This decision marks Mourinho’s return to Real Madrid for a second time, having previously managed the club from 2010 until the end of the 2012-2013 season before departing to coach Chelsea.
During his first tenure at the helm of the royal club, he led the team to three major titles, including the La Liga championship in the 2011-2012 season, along with the Copa del Rey in 2011 and the Spanish Super Cup in 2012. Additionally, he guided Real Madrid to the UEFA Champions League semifinals three consecutive times from 2011 to 2013.
Reports indicate that Real Madrid’s management paid a €15 million release clause to Benfica to secure Mourinho’s services after Florentino Pérez triumphed in the club presidency race against rival Enrique Riquelme.
The club hopes that Mourinho will help restore its glory after two consecutive seasons without any trophies.
