Trezeguet on the Verge of Becoming Egypt’s Most Capped Player at World Cup 2026

Written byFerdous Saeed

Mohamed Hassan Trezeguet, the Egyptian national team player, is poised to enter the annals of history with the Pharaohs as he anticipates his participation against Belgium in the opening match of Group G at the 2026 World Cup. The tournament is set to take place from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Egypt will kick off its World Cup journey on Monday, June 15, facing Belgium in a group that also includes Iran and New Zealand. This match presents a significant challenge as they begin their campaign.

If Trezeguet steps onto the field during this encounter, he will become the most capped player in Egypt’s World Cup history, achieving four appearances and surpassing players from the 1990 squad, most of whom recorded only three participations.

It is noteworthy that Trezeguet, along with Mohamed Salah and Mohamed El-Shenawy, has been part of the generation that led Egypt to qualify for the World Cup twice, in the 2018 edition in Russia and now for the current tournament in 2026.

During their participation in the Russian World Cup, both Salah and El-Shenawy had limited appearances; Salah missed the match against Uruguay due to injury, while El-Shenawy did not play against Saudi Arabia for tactical reasons, with veteran goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary taking his place in that game.
