Egypt’s Media Council Receives Complaint Against Ahmed Shobair Over Remarks on Al Masry Fans
The Supreme Council for Media Regulation, led by Khaled Abdel Aziz, has received an official complaint from MP Hassan Tarek Ammar against media personality Ahmed Shobair. This complaint arises from comments made by Shobair during his recent television and radio appearances.
The complaint specifically addresses remarks made during the episode of “Hena El Mondial” aired on Al-Nahar channel on June 10, as well as comments from the program “Ma’a Shobair” on ON Sport radio on June 11. These statements were deemed offensive to the fans of Al Masry SC, according to the complaint.
In response, the council has referred the case to the Complaints Committee, chaired by media figure Essam El Amir, along with a specialized committee monitoring sports media performance, headed by Counselor Abdel Salam El Naggar, Deputy President of the State Council and council member. This is to ensure a thorough examination of the complaint.
The two committees are expected to review all details related to the incident and take necessary actions in accordance with Law No. 180 of 2018 regulating press and media, as well as relevant regulations governing media operations within institutions.
Shobair’s Comments on Al Masry Fans
During his program “Hena El Mondial 2026,” Shobair expressed surprise at the atmosphere following Al Masry’s victory in the League Cup, noting that fan support for major clubs is natural and understandable. However, he questioned linking victories to insults directed at Al Ahly club.
He also referenced a past incident from previous years, expressing his disapproval of such hostile environments or a return to scenes of violence. He emphasized the importance of maintaining sportsmanship and criticized officials for not adequately addressing such crises in his view.
