Written byFerdous Saeed

A new development regarding the future of young player Hamza Abdel Karim has emerged, as sports journalist Ahmed Shobir announced that FC Barcelona has officially activated his purchase clause.

During a segment on “On Sport FM,” Shobir explained that Abdel Karim initially joined Barcelona on a six-month loan, during which he scored six goals in eight matches. He also helped lead his youth team to the final of the UEFA Youth League, where they were narrowly defeated by Real Madrid.

The purchase clause is set at €1.5 million, payable in two installments. Additionally, there are further stipulations that could allow Al Ahly SC to receive between €3 million and €5 million based on the player’s appearances and goals. Al Ahly will also benefit from 15% of any future resale.

Shobir praised Abdel Karim’s impressive performances with the national team, highlighting his significant contributions during the World Cup.

In related comments, Shobir emphasized the importance of supporting early professional experiences for Egyptian players. He noted several talents making their mark in Europe, including Bilal Attia at Racing Club and Ziad Ayoub in Portugal, along with Mohamed Haytham who is nearing a move to La Liga.

He affirmed that these experiences represent a positive step forward, particularly as most of these players play as forwards—a position where Egyptian football has been facing challenges.

Shobir concluded by referencing remarks from Ahmed Hossam Mido, who suggested that Abdel Karim might be loaned out again to gain further experience. He also mentioned that coach Hansi Flick hinted at the possibility of including Abdel Karim in the team’s preparation period, increasing his chances of remaining with Barcelona in the upcoming season.
