Diaa El-Sayed Critiques US World Cup Organization, Praises Wael Gomaa’s Role at Al Ahly
Diaa El-Sayed, former coach of the Egyptian national team, expressed that Al Ahly fans have grown accustomed to a continuous pursuit of championships and impressive performances over the years. This expectation has made the dissatisfaction following last season’s outcomes quite understandable.
In remarks made during the “Number One” program hosted by Mohamed Shobana on CBC, El-Sayed stated, “Over the past decade, Al Ahly fans’ aspirations have changed as they have become used to winning titles and showcasing strong performances. This has been achieved through the efforts of both management and players, so it’s natural for fans to feel upset after last season.”.
He further noted that Hussein Amouta is a safer choice for Al Ahly’s management, especially after several coaches failed to succeed following Marcel Koller’s departure. This has led the management to be more cautious in their selections.
El-Sayed commented on Amouta’s chances of success with Al Ahly, stating that they are evenly balanced at 50%. However, his insistence on being the primary decision-maker regarding technical choices gives El-Sayed a positive impression of him.
He pointed out that defensive discipline was one of the key aspects that Al Ahly has lacked recently, emphasizing that Amouta is well aware of this issue and will work to address it.
El-Sayed clarified that the football director cannot be held accountable for everything happening within the club. He said, “The team’s success begins with the success of the head coach. When a coach succeeds technically, it fosters an atmosphere of stability and calm, which eases the football director’s responsibilities.”.
Praising Wael Gomaa, El-Sayed asserted that he possesses significant capabilities that will contribute positively to Al Ahly in the near future. He stated, “Wael Gomaa is a remarkable personality and will be a strong addition to Al Ahly during this period; however, his success will still depend on the head coach’s effectiveness.”.
He added that during his time working with the Egyptian national team, Gomaa was involved in all details and discussions regarding various technical and administrative matters and often reviewed decisions with Carlos Queiroz.
El-Sayed underscored the importance of having an Egyptian element within the coaching staff, mentioning his preference for maintaining Adel Mostafa as part of the support team.
Concluding his remarks, he addressed the organization of the World Cup in the United States, stating: “The organization by America for the World Cup is poor; there are strange things happening. What we see now highlights Qatar’s significant success in organizing a remarkable version of the World Cup.”.
