David Alaba Discusses Anticipated Clash with Messi in 2026 World Cup
David Alaba, defender for the Austrian national team, has shared his thoughts on the upcoming match against Lionel Messi, the legendary forward for Argentina, in the 2026 World Cup.
The tournament is set to kick off on June 11 and will conclude on July 19, featuring a total of 48 teams from various continents.
Austria finds itself in Group D, competing alongside Argentina, Algeria, and Jordan for a chance to advance to the knockout stages.
In an interview with FIFA’s official website, Alaba stated: “Facing Messi? It’s not just about confronting Lionel Messi alone; it’s about facing the entire Argentine team.”.
He added: “Argentina is the current world champion, and that fact alone highlights the challenge we are up against. It will be an extraordinary match by all standards and will require us to maintain utmost focus and discipline.”.
Alaba continued: “However, we don’t want to get too caught up in our opponent. The key to achieving results lies in sticking to our style and executing our game plan as required. This approach will not change even against a team of Argentina’s caliber.”.
