Mustafa Shobeir, the goalkeeper for the Egyptian national team, has emphasized that the team’s objective for the 2026 World Cup goes beyond merely performing well. He stated that the squad is determined to achieve a significant accomplishment that will leave a lasting mark on the history of Egyptian football during the tournament hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The Egyptian team is preparing to compete in Group F, which includes Belgium, Iran, and New Zealand. This presents a challenging scenario where the Pharaohs will face strong opponents as they aim to progress to the knockout stages.
In comments made during a television interview on ON Sport, Shobeir highlighted that the team approaches the tournament with a competitive mindset and ambition. He stressed that players are not content with just delivering good performances; instead, they aspire to achieve results that honor Egypt and its football legacy.
The Al Ahly goalkeeper acknowledged the crucial role of Egyptian fans in supporting the team, urging them to continue their backing throughout their World Cup journey, just as they have done in previous tournaments.
Shobeir also expressed his happiness at being included in the national squad’s list of goalkeepers. He noted that all goalkeepers possess significant skills and experience and that he benefits from everyone in the training camp. He reaffirmed his readiness to participate whenever called upon.
He added that respecting the coaching staff’s decisions is essential for him, whether he plays in matches or remains on the bench. He pointed out that the overall benefit of the team takes precedence over any individual considerations.
Shobeir concluded by reiterating that all players share a desire to bring joy to Egyptian fans and deliver performances that evoke pride during their anticipated participation in the World Cup.
The Egyptian team’s campaign is set to begin on June 15 with a challenging match against Belgium at 10 PM. They will then face New Zealand early on June 22 before concluding their group stage matches against Iran on June 27.
