Argentina Coach Reveals Key Role of Messi Ahead of 2026 World Cup
Lionel Scaloni, head coach of the Argentina national team, has made a significant revelation regarding Lionel Messi, the team’s captain, as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup.
Argentina aims to defend its title after winning the previous tournament in Qatar in 2022, where they triumphed over France in a dramatic penalty shootout.
In the upcoming World Cup, Argentina is placed in Group D, competing against Algeria, Austria, and Jordan for a chance to advance to the knockout stages.
In comments reported by the Spanish newspaper Marca, Scaloni stated, “No one likes to be substituted, and Messi is among them. I do not make any decisions without consulting Messi.”.
He further emphasized, “It makes no sense to say that I am the only one responsible; we always discuss all decisions with Messi. I always ask for his opinion and his condition, and we try to reach an agreement together.”.
Scaloni concluded by saying, “This is the ideal situation. Although he faces challenges on the field, he contributes significantly. It is better to have him on the pitch as he can create numerous opportunities and chances.”.
