Ahmad Shobair Urges Al Ahly to Renew Hussein El Shahat’s Contract

Written byFerdous Saeed

Ahmad Shobair, former goalkeeper for Al Ahly and the Egyptian national team, has addressed the ongoing discussions regarding the renewal of Hussein El Shahat’s contract amid the current summer transfer window.

Under the leadership of Mahmoud El Khatib, Al Ahly is focused on renewing contracts for experienced players as they aim to compete for both domestic and African titles in the upcoming football season.

In comments made on Wednesday, Shobair stated, “Yesterday I read a clarification from Al Ahly; some said it was official while others claimed it was leaked. The essence of it is that Al Ahly is committed to Hussein El Shahat. They mentioned how much they sacrificed for him and that they purchased him for an undisclosed amount. They also indicated that an offer has been made to the player, and that Al Ahly will not change its policy regarding contract renewals in the near future.”.

Shobair further explained, “No one dislikes a system with discipline and commitment, but what struck me is the statement about how much was paid for Hussein. He has given everything; he sits on the bench or plays without causing any issues.”.

He continued, “If you want Hussein to adhere to your system, keep negotiations confidential at all levels and always maintain a give-and-take approach. Is Al Ahly in need of Hussein El Shahat? Yes. Are they negotiating with him for a renewal? Yes. The crucial question now is how strong these negotiations are.”.

Shobair emphasized the need for decisive action: “You have to weigh your options until you finish this matter. There’s an English saying that goes (money talks), which translates in Egypt to (Toto on Kabuto). When I want to finalize a deal, I pay immediately and put money on the table. This is how negotiations work in football globally.”.

He concluded by stating, “Al Ahly has delayed in renewing El Shahat’s contract. Why does it take so long? If you had approached him two months ago with an offer to renew, we wouldn’t be in this situation now. It’s essential that players do not compare their worth based on what others earn; they should focus on their own value instead.”.

Additionally, he remarked, “We cannot always rely on the fact that Hussein is loyal and loves the club; he may not always feel this way. So finalize these negotiations quickly and avoid leaks about offers being made or rejected.”.
