Zamalek’s Ahmed Suleiman Addresses Rumors of Al Ahly’s Participation in Champions League
Ahmed Suleiman, a board member of Zamalek SC, has clarified recent speculation regarding Al Ahly’s potential participation in the CAF Champions League instead of Zamalek, asserting that such claims are unfounded.
In an interview on MBC Masr, Suleiman described the circulating rumors on social media and various media platforms as mere “illusions,” emphasizing that Zamalek has grown accustomed to facing such rumors over the years.
The board member highlighted that the club has encountered numerous challenges since the current administration took over but has successfully navigated these issues and achieved positive results across various levels. He noted that the management was able to resolve registration issues despite their complexity, alongside securing several significant titles.
Suleiman pointed out that Zamalek won both the CAF Confederation Cup and the African Super Cup, and came close to clinching other championships, in addition to winning the Egypt Cup against Pyramids FC, which he described as a club with a strong presence on both African and international stages.
He reaffirmed that these accomplishments were achieved despite numerous obstacles, including registration bans and frequent changes in coaching staff. Suleiman stressed that Zamalek remains one of the largest clubs in terms of history and fan base.
He also acknowledged that Zamalek’s supporters are a vital source of strength for the club, stating that their ongoing support has been crucial in many successes achieved by the team recently.
Regarding financial obligations related to obtaining the African license, Suleiman explained that there are ongoing settlements and legal financial procedures being addressed. He confirmed that the club is managing this matter through specialized committees and departments to ensure all necessary requirements are met.
