Egypt’s Foreign Minister Warns of Israeli Practices in West Bank

Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met today with Johan Wadephul, Germany’s Foreign Minister, during his visit to Luxembourg for the EU-Egypt Partnership Council meeting.

During their meeting, Minister Abdel Aty praised the significant advancements in Egyptian-German relations over recent years across various fields. He emphasized that the Egyptian-German partnership is a cornerstone of Egypt’s relations with Europe, particularly given the momentum generated by upgrading ties with the European Union to a strategic and comprehensive partnership.

He expressed his hopes for continued collaboration to elevate bilateral relations to new heights that reflect the mutual interests and level of cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Abdel Aty highlighted the importance of deepening economic and investment cooperation between Egypt and Germany, as Germany is one of Egypt’s key European economic partners. He reviewed the promising investment opportunities available in the Egyptian market for German companies in sectors such as industry, energy, infrastructure, green economy, and digital transformation.

He also pointed out Egypt’s priority in localizing industry and enhancing the role of the private sector, stressing the importance of cooperation in vocational training and labor mobility to benefit both countries and strengthen their economic partnership.

The discussion also covered several regional and international issues of mutual interest. Minister Abdel Aty welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, emphasizing that dialogue and diplomatic solutions remain the only way to address various concerns.

Furthermore, he expressed hope for Germany to play a more active role regarding conditions in Gaza, ensuring sustained humanitarian access while supporting efforts to resume political processes aimed at achieving a two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy.

Minister Abdel Aty warned against the dangers posed by Israeli practices in the West Bank, including settlement expansion and attempts to impose facts on the ground. He noted the negative repercussions of these policies on opportunities for achieving just and comprehensive peace as well as on security and stability in the region.

In response, Germany’s Foreign Minister commended Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting security and stability in the region and its efforts to contain regional escalation while promoting opportunities for de-escalation and political solutions.

He also expressed Germany’s eagerness to continue developing bilateral relations with Egypt and enhancing consultation and coordination on various regional and international issues that concern both nations.
